Artists are a little odd.

No matter what jobs we use to feed ourselves, we view the world through a glass skewed by our own artistic vision. We also tend to view ourselves and our work through a screen showing more errors than accomplishments.

I read an article a few years ago that used a lot of math and geek-speak to explain why limpets- the clingy little sea creatures on rocks and hulls- aren't symmetrical. In plain English, it turns out it's not worth the effort for them to be perfect: off-center conserves evolutionary energy and works just fine for a limpet. I decided I should stop being so critical of everything I did, said, and made. I decided I should be a limpet.

So, I try every day to be the best person I can be and to do the right thing, but I also try to cut myself some slack when I fail. I do the best I can, but I'm not perfect at that, either.

I'm a limpet.

Welcome to my world.
